MINIATUR WUNDERLAND
The world in miniature

Miniature Wonderland Hamburg: the world in miniature
A trip around the world in just a few hours? It’s possible in Hamburg’s Miniatur Wunderland! Thousands of miniature trains clatter through detailed landscapes, aeroplanes take off and land at tiny airports, and little people go about their daily business. Experience the fascination of 14 themed worlds on a scale of 1:87 and be inspired by the attention to detail.
The dream of the largest model railway
The idea for Miniatur Wunderland was born in 2000. Even as children, the two brothers Gerrit and Frederik Braun dreamt of a giant model railway. Years later, they turned their dream into reality and opened Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg’s Speicherstadt. What began as a small attraction quickly developed into one of Germany’s most popular tourist destinations.
14 miniature wonderlands
In Miniatur Wunderland, visitors can discover 14 different themed worlds. For example, there is the detailed replica of Hamburg with the harbour, the Elbphilharmonie and the Reeperbahn. In Scandinavia, ships sail across the fjords, and in the Swiss Alps, mountaineers climb to the summit. America is also represented with Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. In Italy, you can take a gondola through Venice, and in Austria you can admire the beautiful landscapes. Knuffingen, the capital of hearts, is a fictitious city with its own airport and bus system. And in South America, you can travel along the Amazon and marvel at the ruins of the Incas. You can also take a trip to Provence and Monaco or visit Rio.

Technology that inspires
In addition to the detailed landscapes, the technical refinements in the Miniatur Wunderland are also impressive. More than 1,100 trains run on over 15 kilometres of tracks. Cars and trucks move independently through the cities, and ships cruise on the lakes and seas. Even aeroplanes take off and land at the miniature airports. The entire system is controlled by a complex computer system.

Awards and records
Miniatur Wunderland has already received multiple awards, including being voted Germany’s most popular tourist attraction for the largest model railway in the world. Miniatur Wunderland is also represented in the Guinness Book of Records – in two categories: as the largest model railway in the world and as the world’s largest model railway across all scales.
An experience for young and old
Miniature Wonderland is an experience for the whole family. Children and adults are equally fascinated by the tiny worlds and the many details. There is always something new to discover, and you can stand for hours in front of the models and watch the scenes.
